LUZ MARIA GARCIA Obituary



Luz María “Luz” García ha fallecido a causa de un paro cardíaco. Fue una gran hija, madre, esposa y un gran ser humano.
Luz María, de 89 años, falleció pacíficamente el 8 de enero de 2022 en el Hospital St. Joseph en Tampa, Florida.
Luz María nació el 29 de mayo de 1932 en Placetas, Cuba, hija de la fallecida Carmen Pomarez y Ricardo Alvarez (un terrateniente y agricultor).
Llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1967 como refugiada de Cuba con su hija Nancy y rápidamente se integró y se adaptó a la vida en su nuevo país.
Luz María comenzó a trabajar en 1970 en un banco de la ciudad de Nueva York ubicado en el alto Manhattan, donde trabajó durante 29 años.
El 22 de agosto de 1977, Luz María se casó con Jórge García en el juzgado del Bronx, Nueva York.
Luz María regresó brevemente a Cuba después de 1979 para luchar por el derecho de sus hijos, su nuera y sus nietos a emigrar a los Estados Unidos.
Se retiró a Tampa, Florida con su amado esposo Jórge García en 2001.
Dedicó su vida a la creación de un hogar amoroso para su familia.
A Luz María le sobreviven su devoto esposo, Jórge García, 1 hijo, Jóse Marrero, 1 yerno, Marco Fernandez, 1 neura, Olga L. Clark, 1 sobrina, Davia Marrero, 10 nietos, Rosendo, Yolexy, Yojana, Liset, Alexander, Leonardo, Marilus, Maylin, Janet (Vincent) y Erik (Ileana), 21 bisnietos y 4 tataranietos.
Luz María García era conocida como una persona muy solidaria y si tenías un problema, ella se extendería para ayudar y resolver los problemas para llegar a una buena resolución.
Era una cocinera excelente y una cocinera experta en la comida Cubano.
Le precedieron en la muerte su hija, Nancy González y su hijo, Nelson Alvarez (Marrero).

Luz Maria “Luz” Garcia has died due to heart failure. She was a great daughter, mother, wife and great human being.

Luz Maria, 89, passed away on January 8, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

Luz Maria was born on May 29, 1932 in Placetas, Cuba, the daughter of the late Carmen Pomarez and Ricardo Alvarez (a landowner and farmer). 

She came to the United States in 1967 as a Cuban refugee with her daughter Nancy and quickly integrated and adjusted to life in her new country.

Luz Maria started working in 1970 at a New York City bank located in upper Manhattan, where she worked for 29 years.

On August 22, 1977, Luz Maria married Jórge Garcia at the Bronx, New York courthouse. 

Luz Maria briefly returned to Cuba after 1979 to fight for the right of her sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren to emigrate to the United States.

She retired to Tampa, Florida with her beloved husband Jórge Garcia in 2001.

She dedicated her life to the creation of a loving home for her family.

Luz Maria is survived by her devoted husband, Jórge Garcia, 1 son, Jóse Marrero, 1 son-in-law, Marco Fernandez, 1 daughter-in-law, Olga L. Clark, 1 niece, Davia Marrero, 10 grandchildren, Rosendo, Yolexy, Yojana, Liset, Alexander, Leonardo, Marilus, Maylin, Janet (Vincent) and Erik (Ileana) and 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Luz Maria Garcia was known as a very supportive person and if you had a problem she would extend herself to help solve it and bring it to a good resolution.

She was known as an excellent cook and an expert level cook in a wide range of Cuban delicacies.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy González and her son, Nelson Alvarez (Marrero).
